802.11ac technology operates in 5GHz band and builds upon 802.11n with a wider RF bandwidth (80MHz or 160 MHz), MIMO and high density 256QAM modulation.  802.11ac provides a higher throughput of 1Gigabit/sec below 6 GHz for multiple stations.

These devices operating in the 5GHz band, can be C-Ticked for Australia & New Zealand regardless of bandwidth.

Based on Australian requirements (as C-Tick can be used for NZ as well), these would be:

  1. Radiocommunications (Short Range Devices) Standard 2004 – as long as it complies with the respective 5GHz bands requirements within the referenced AS/NZS 4268:2012 – and the device must operate within the conditions stipulated in the Radiocommunications (Low Interference Potential Devices) Class License 2000.  Note permitted 5GHz transmission bands are 5150MHz-5350MHz, 5470MHz-5600MHz, 5650MHz-5850MHz.
  2. Radiocommunications (Electromagnetic Radiation-Human Exposure) Standard 2003.
  3. Radiocommunications (Electromagnetic Compatibility) Standard 2008 – if it has non-transmission functions.  This would be to AS/NZS CISPR 22:2009 or ACMA accepted equivalent International/European standards
