Australian requirements for switches used in power boards
New South Wales Fair Trading have issued a clarification with respect to switches used in power boards.
AS/NZS 3105 requires that where a switch controlling socket outlets is incorporated in a power board, it must comply with AS/NZS 3133. A number of laboratories have however been producing compliant test reports where the switch has been accepted on the basis of an existing Certificate and Test Report stating compliance with IEC/EN 61058.
Please note that the deeming provisions of AS/NZS 3133 only accept AS/NZS 61058 as an equivalent when used within an appliance.
Such a switch may not, (depending on its classification and rating), satisfy the requirements of AS/NZS 3133 with typical failures occurring in both the endurance and temperature rise tests.
Certificates of Approval issued for power boards must be supported by Test Reports in terms of AS/NZS 3105 where the switch has been tested to AS/NZS 3133 when mounted within the powerboard.
Please note Austest Laboratories is accredited to AS/NZS 3105 and for testing switches to AS/NZS 3133. Contact us for a quote.
