(Update 19/12/14) Position Filled.  Keep an eye out for more employment opportunities with Austest Laboratories.

Australia’s leading test house is seeking a mechatronics engineer to join their rapidly growing environmental testing team in Castle Hill NSW.  The environmental team is responsible for conducting a wide range of mechanical and climatic tests (vibration, shock, impact, cyclic fatigue, temperature, altitude, pressure, acoustic noise, corrosion, UV radiation and many others) for clients which include major suppliers in defence, mining, rail and medical industries.

The main tasks to be covered by this position can be broadly divided into three categories:

– Environmental testing (setting up and executing tests, preparation of test reports, dealing with customers, etc.)

– Design and construction of customised test equipment

– Repairs, maintenance and modifications of specialized test machines

Previous experience in testing would be a definite advantage, however not essential as on-the-job training will be provided.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate following characteristics:

  • Sound understanding of basic principles of both mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate independently and self-prioritize
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new situations
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Practical experience in at least some of the following areas:
    • Vibration and acoustics
    • Instrumentation, measurements and DAQ systems
    • Sensors and transducers
    • Industrial automation, electronics and pneumatics
    • Troubleshooting and repairs of machines and equipment
    • Preparation of formal technical documentation

The workload is very versatile so this position requires knowledge of multiple engineering fields.  Mechatronics engineers with at least 3-5 years of industrial experience or electrical/mechanical engineer with sufficient knowledge of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.

This is a hands-on role requiring a practical person, able to bring ideas into reality.  The successful candidate must be able to use mechanical tools and be comfortable operating in a workshop type environment. A mechanical trade background would be very beneficial.

Salary commensurate with experience.  Only persons with an existing right to employment in Australia should apply.  Applications should be sent to info@approvalspecialists.com  (no phone calls and no agencies please).
